Roofing FAQs

Tallahassee Roofing Inc. has over 60 years of residential and commercial experience. We are your Tallahassee area roofing expert. Below are some questions we are frequently asked.

What types of roofing materials does Tallahassee Roofing Inc. offer?

We offer several roofing types to our residential and commercial customers including:

Asphalt Shingle Roofs – This popular type roof is durable, attractive, and affordable. Three common designs are three-tab, architectural, and luxury shingles.

Metal Roofs – Metal roofs are a common choice for commercial buildings. But they are increasingly becoming the choice for homeowners. They are available in a wide range of colors and styles. Metal roofs are durable, fire-resistant, and cost-effective.

Clay Tiles – Although tile is expensive, it is a very long-lasting material. As its name implies it is made from clay and shaped into rolled or interlocking pieces ad then fired for hardness.

Concrete Tiles – These are similar to clay tiles in how they are installed; however, they are less expensive. They are very heavy which makes it a good choice in an area that has high winds.

Slate Shingles – Natural slate roofs can last 75 years and beyond. This beautiful roofing material is made from thin sheets of real stone. Synthetic slate roofing is also available. And although it is less expensive its expected life is between 40 and 50 years.

How do I decide which roofing material to use on my roof?

This depends on several things—your budget, needs, and taste. In addition, you should also think about the lifecycle cost of the material. Another consideration is although some materials are more expensive up front, they may have a longer life expectancy and require less maintenance.

How do I know if need a new roof?

If you do need a new roof, making the decision to do so should not be delayed. There are a few signs that it is time to replace your roof:

  • The chimney has cracked masonry.
  • Water is backing up in the eaves.
  • Signs of roof rot which includes a spongy feeling when you walk on it.
  • You see wet spots on ceilings, in the attic, or crawl spaces.
  • Damaged flashing.
  • Shingles are blistering, buckling, or curled.
  • If your roof is older than 20 years.

Find out for sure. Tallahassee Roofing can give you the advice you need.

My roof is leaking. Can it be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?

It depends. If your roof is simply leaking, but in good condition otherwise, repairs may be all that are necessary. However, if it show signs of wear and is old in addition to leaking it may require a full replacement. Tallahassee Roofing can come out, inspect your roof, and make a recommendation.

Are there any energy savings benefits to installing a new roof?

Absolutely! A new roof can lower your energy bill. One way to make the roof energy efficient is to use a roofing material that does not absorb the energy from the sun, but rather reflects it back into the environment. In addition, when the roof is being replaced, this is a good time to determine if the ventilation needs to be updated.

Does Tallahassee Roofing Inc. inspect roofs?

We do—for both residential and commercial roofs. We offer three types of inspections:

  • Homeowner inspections
  • Inspection done for banks, insurance companies and real estate needs
  • Annual inspections

The prices of these inspections depend on the size and type of roof. Read more
